I tip my hat to Jürgen, Andreas, Tim, Natalie, and the entire Pioneers Festival team for pulling off yet another outstanding event. Hosted in the Royal Imperial Hofburg Palace, if there were awards given out for the European Tech Conference circuit, Pioneers would take the “Best Venue” award hands down.
Needless to say, the venue alone provides a stunning backdrop, and is photographic eye candy. And I have to say, the program, speakers, and participants are all top quality.
As the Pioneers Festival was the first event I covered two years ago, it’s always a bit of a homecoming to shoot in the same town where I live. I’m constantly on the road, and sleeping in my own bed was a welcome treat. Not to mention actually knowing where I’m going, and not having to rely on Google for every little turn.
As per usual, the regulars were all in attendance, and given the location, there were a lot of new faces from the CEE region and Germany that I had the opportunity to get to know and others where relationships were strengthened.
Returning to Pioneers two years on, it was a bit of a trip down memory lane, and I had a laugh at just how far my work has come since those early days. At Pioneers in 2012, I invested tons and tons of hours in the shooting and post-processing, and was working until the wee hours of the morning trying to get my shots out and ready for the organization and the media. Two years on, I’ve developed a streamlined workflow, whereby I’m already uploading media-ready images, most times before the speaker even leaves the stage.
It’s been a helluva road to get to where I am today, and I wouldn’t trade a minute of it. A big thanks go out to Natalie Thonhauser for her excellent organization and fantastic delivery of an outstanding Pioneers Festival.
