Dan was in Berlin over the past weekend representing Heisenberg Media and covered the betapitch | global event held on the 6th of July at betahaus. A number of impressive startups presented to an all star jury, including Jörg Rheinboldt, Thomas Madsen-Mygdal, Fee Beyer, Jürgen Hopfgartner, Philipp von Bieberstein, Peter Bihr, and Max Gurvits.
Excellent entrepreneurs from around the globe descended upon Berlin, and went head to head pitching their innovations, and coming under close scrutiny from both the jury, and active audience members. After a sweltering afternoon/evening in the betahaus space, and after some tense jury deliberations, the winners were announced:
get2play, hailing from betahaus | Hamburg received a one-way ticket to the Valley and a 3 month program at the plugandplaycenter. The story behind the one-way ticket as that Tobias received a bit of flak from the jury about being too “German” focused. Their intention is to send him to the U.S. to remove this mentality, and (perhaps) keep him there for good.
Diagsum, which is on a mission to prevent blindness, received a wildcard to the next hub:raum accelerator program.
And rounding out the prizes, bike roadway building platform Bikway received a trip to Paris from email marketing service Mailjet.
Adding to the overall energy and excitement of the event, Robin Haak’s alter ego Robi B. made a cameo appearance and took over the moderating duties for a stint. A heartfelt thanks go out to Katka, Jan, and Madeleine at betahaus, as well as the good folks at Sandcastle Berlin for the place to rest.
Below are some of our favorite shots, as well as a great recap video by the good folks at Startüberlin, with Dan making a few appearances.
